Standing out to top-tier candidates is a challenge. Good people have loads of employers to choose from. A firm’s employer brand – the reputation it cultivates as a workplace – plays a crucial role in attracting and retaining the best people. A highly effective tool for building an employer brand is good photography.
High-quality, authentic imagery not only captures the essence of your workplace culture but also allows potential employees to see whether they would like to be part of your team.
Why Employer Branding Needs Photography
While your firm’s benefits package may look good on paper, the desire to work somewhere often comes from what potential employees see and hear about a firm. Photography can:
- Show You Culture: Real images of your team, office, and work culture build trust and help candidates connect with your firm’s values.
- Highlight Work-Life Balance: Pictures of positive workspace environments, people being able to do their own thing, community involvement or team events emphasise your commitment to employee well-being.
- Convey Professionalism: High-quality photography positions your firm as an organised, forward-thinking, and desirable place to work.
The Ramboll Case Study: Capturing Work-Life Balance
When Ramboll, embarked on an “Employer of Choice” campaign, they wanted to demonstrate their commitment to work-life balance and an enriching workplace culture. I worked with them to create a series of images that brought their values to life.
The Vision
Ramboll’s leadership team envisioned a campaign that showed their employees thriving – both in work and outside of it. They wanted to highlight the diverse locations where their team members live and work, emphasising flexibility and balance. And they wanted to show their people having time and energy to follow their own interests as well as working.
The Approach
Over two weeks, I travelled to various locations where Ramboll’s employees worked. The goal was to capture:
- Candid Moments: Images of employees working together to show the real work environment
- Collaborative Spaces: Vibrant photos of team members working in modern spaces.
- Personal Lives: Lifestyle shots of employees pursuing hobbies or spending time with family, showing their individuality.
The Results
The final images featured a mix of workplace images and personal storytelling. These photos became the centrepiece of Ramboll’s careers page and social media campaign to position themselves as the employer of choice in their sector.
How Your Firm Can Benefit from Employer Branding Photography
If you’re ready to elevate your employer brand, here are some steps to get started:
- Define Your Message: What values and qualities make your firm unique? Identify the story you want your photography to tell.
- Plan for Authenticity: Avoid staged or overly polished images. Showcase real employees, real moments, and real spaces.
- Use Photos Strategically: Integrate your images across your careers page, LinkedIn profile, recruitment ads, and internal communications to create a cohesive narrative.
